Alloy wheel refurbishment is the full job: the tyre comes off, the wheel is checked, stripped back, repaired and refinished, then the tyre goes back on and is balanced. Alloy wheel repair is the fix for one particular problem, such as a buckle, a crack or a kerbed edge. We do both in-house at our workshop on Coomassie Street, Newport, and take alloy wheels (or rims, if that is what you call them) in from right across South Wales.

Alloy wheel damage and how we fix it
Most alloy wheels come to us with one of the problems below, and plenty with two or three at once. Every wheel is checked for buckles and cracks before work starts, and if we find something you did not know about we call you before going any further.
- Kerb damage and scuffs
- Ground out and repaired before the wheel is refinished. Kerb repair is included in the price of a powder coat or diamond cut refurbishment.
- Corrosion and peeling paint
- The old finish is chemically stripped and blasted right back to bare metal, then the wheel is powder coated, so the corrosion has nowhere to hide.
- Cloudy or white diamond cut faces
- Water has got under the lacquer on the machined face. The wheel goes back on our lathe, a fresh face is cut and sealed with new lacquer. See diamond cut alloy wheel repairs.
- Buckled by a pothole
- Pressed back into shape on our hydraulic straightener, then spun and checked for runout. See alloy wheel straightening.
- Cracked rims
- TIG welded where it is structurally safe to do so. If a wheel is beyond safe repair, we tell you straight. Crack repairs are booked in on Wednesdays.
- Fancy a new colour
- Gloss black, silver and gunmetal grey can be booked online. Factory colour matches and custom shades are quoted individually. See your wheels in a new colour before you book.
What a full alloy wheel refurbishment involves
Every refurbishment is carried out in-house by Carl, our workshop manager, and Wiktor, at our workshop on Coomassie Street in Newport. Nothing is sent away.

Tyre off and checked
The tyre comes off and every wheel is checked for buckles and cracks, so we know exactly what we are dealing with.
- 02
Stripped and repaired
The old finish comes off and kerb damage, scrapes and scratches are repaired. Buckles are straightened and cracks welded if you have agreed the extra work.
- 03
Refinished
Powder coated and baked in your chosen colour, or cut fresh on our diamond cutting lathe and lacquered.
- 04
Refitted and balanced
The tyre goes back on and is balanced, ready to collect. Most wheels are turned around in 48 to 72 hours.

- Powder coating
- £108 per wheel, or £132 for wheels over 21 inch. Kerb damage repair is included. More on powder coating.
- Diamond cutting
- £162 per wheel, or £180 for wheels over 21 inch. More on diamond cut repairs.
- Straightening
- £96 per wheel, with tyre removal and refit included.
- Crack repair
- £126 per wheel, welded and straightened if it needs it, with tyre removal and refit included. Booked in on Wednesdays.
- Tyre removal and balancing
- £18 per wheel on powder coating and diamond cutting. Bring bare wheels and there is no tyre charge. Buy new tyres with your booking and it is waived.
- Set of four offer
- Four wheels powder coated in gloss black, silver or gunmetal, up to 21 inch, for £360 with tyre removal, fitting and balancing included. See the offer.
- Paying
- Pay in full by card, Klarna pay in 3 or Clearpay pay in 4, put down a £50 deposit, or book now and pay at drop-off.
- Guarantee
- Every powder coated finish is covered for 12 months against peeling, flaking, bubbling and lacquer failure. Read the guarantee.

Scuffed bumpers, scratches and dents are handled by AMS Point bodyshop, three doors down on Coomassie Street and owned by one of the owners of South Wales Alloys. We also do brake caliper refurbishment in the colour of your choice.
